The Department of Transportation (DOT) has mandated that certain employees are subject to federal drug and alcohol use and testing regulations. Any employee who violates these regulations must be immediately removed from safety-sensitive responsibilities, and may not be returned to any safety-sensitive duty in the transportation industry until and unless they successfully complete the DOT return-to-duty processes, which includes a SAP evaluation. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), USCG (U.S. Coast Guard), FMCSA (Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration), FTA (Federal Transit Administration), RSPA (Research and Special Programs) and FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) fall under the jurisdiction of the D.O.T. Federal Guidelines.
